Do most Americans go to the beach every summer?

Main Post:

Hello guys!

I am from Europe ( Balkan ) and im curious how common is going to seaside for vacation in USA ( like 1-2 weeks with family or friends etc)? Of course if you dont live close to beach😂.

Here in my country and in most Europe i feel its a must to spend couple of weeks at seaside every summer.

I also notice Americans really like lakes and boats so i am curious to read your thoughts.

Top Comment: Believe it or not but there are some Americans that have never been to the beach and some that literally go 365 days a year

I've noticed a lot of adults don't seem to like the beach. They only spend an afternoon at the beach for their young children.

Have you noticed this? Do you think this is the case?

The last couple of summers when I've been at various beaches, most of the people were about 20 or younger. I love the beach, despite being a millennial. Why do some adults seem to think the beach is boring or childish? If adults don't really like the beach, was this the case 10 or 20 years ago, or just something that happened in the last few years?

Top Comment: i don’t like crowded beaches, however my friends friend has a little private beach at a beautiful lake and i could spend all day there happily it’s so peaceful

There is absolutely nothing fun or enjoyable about the beach

Main Post:

Crowds, sand, sunburn, children. The beach is an absolute nightmare. It's loud, crowded and dirty. And unless you live within walking distance of the beach, most people have to drive quite a distance in order to get there. Then they get there, and all people do is sit around and do nothing. I can do nothing at home.

The ocean is nothing special either. I would much rather chill in a swimming pool with a drink in my hand than go play in the salty ocean. I've stepped on a fair share of hermit crabs when I was a kid. Don't have that problem at all with swimming pools.

Then when you're done, I hope you like sand! The sand you track back with you will be in your backpack, blankets, swimsuit, and all throughout your car for the next 3 years

Top Comment: I agree, I don't like sand. It's all coarse, and rough, and irritating. And it gets everywhere.

Since 2011 I have been searching the globe for The Perfect Beach. These are a few of my favourites so far...

Top Comment: You really need to come to Australia and spend a couple of months heading around the country...With such a big coastline, you are bound to find a beach to add to your collection.

30A Sprawl East

Main Post:

What is everyone’s thoughts on the 30A crowd starting to sprawl east to Mexico Beach, Port St Joe & Cape San Blas? Think those areas will start to attract tourists since the beaches aren’t as restrictive in Bay County down that way?

Top Comment:

Maybe the paper mill will come back and the stink will keep tourists away. I'll put-up with just about anything to keep Mexico Beach/PSJ from becoming a clone of the 30A crap. Private beaches, ridiculous toy architecture, and not a sign of historic Florida anywhere. It's a shameful disaster, and I mourn for the time when south Walton was undeveloped.
